What if students could explore a biological cell from the inside, walk through Ancient Rome, design a sustainable city or create their own game world?
3D learning helps students understand complex ideas by making them visible, interactive and meaningful. Whether students are exploring existing models, manipulating digital objects or creating designs of their own, 3D technology can deepen learning across the curriculum.
3D learning transforms learning from passive consumption into active exploration, experimentation and creation.
Many people associate 3D technology with design software and engineering projects. While creating 3D models is certainly an important part of the learning experience, it is only one piece of a much larger picture.
Students don't always need to design something from scratch. Sometimes the most powerful learning happens when they explore, manipulate and interact with existing 3D content.
At Figuro, we use the term 3D Learning because students can learn from 3D in many different ways. Sometimes they create original designs. Other times they investigate historical artifacts, examine biological structures, visualize geographic landscapes or explore virtual worlds.
The goal is not simply to teach students how to design. The goal is to help them understand complex ideas through three-dimensional experiences that make learning more visual, interactive and engaging.
By focusing on 3D Learning, we recognize that 3D technology can support a wide range of subjects, including STEM, history, biology, geography, art and design. Whether students are building something new or exploring something that already exists, 3D helps bring abstract concepts to life.

3D learning can be applied in a wide range of subjects. Let's explore a few possibilities here:
Students can design inventions, tackle engineering challenges, learn computational thinking and develop problem-solving skills through hands-on projects.
Reconstruct ancient civilizations, recreate historical artifacts and explore architecture from different eras through digital models.
Help students visualize complex structures by modeling or viewing cells, organs, ecosystems and biological processes in three dimensions.
Create landscapes, topographical maps and environmental models that help students better understand the physical world.
Combine creativity with technology through sculpture, product design, digital fabrication and visual storytelling.
This resource center brings together lesson ideas, classroom projects, teaching strategies and real-world examples that show how 3D learning can support creativity, critical thinking and deeper learning across the curriculum.
Discover how students designed their own islands, and explored worlds they created themselves.
